teams 2018

Send us around the world with the news of your saving power and
your eternal plan for all mankind.—Psalm 67: 2 (TLB)

Participating on a team is not only an opportunity to serve overseas but an opportunity to expand the kingdom within your own heart.

As you pray about serving, ponder the following guidelines:

I want to serve on a team. . .

  • For the purpose of discerning whether I am called to career missions.
  • Because my particular expertise or skills will advance the work of the ministry.
  • Because I genuinely want to gain knowledge of the ministry and develop relationships with field partners in order to provide intentional support through prayer, finances, and practical helps.

"Our culture is largely invisible to us, which is why it is revelatory to leave one’s society and live in a very different culture for a while. This experience enables us to see how much of our thought and behavior is not based on universal common sense but on a particular cultural practice.”—   Source: Center Church by Tim Keller

Our congregation’s engagement with our international partners through team ministries, prayer, and personal relationships brings about local-global discipleship relationships and bi-directional learning.  As Chattanooga becomes more ethnically diverse, our members with overseas experience and expertise can better relate to and serve the various groups here within our own city.

Frequently asked questions

Complete the Short-Term Mission Application, we will contact you by email after you are approved in the team.

When do the applications close?

See Individual Trips for details.

Do I need to be a member or regular attender of First Presbyterian Church?

No. Although if you are a member of the church, World Missions pay 50% of the cost of your trip.

Do I need to have any previous missions experience?

No. You do not have to have any previous experience. Some trips require specific skills or professional knowledge (such as English teacher or a medical background). Other than that, these trips are open to anyone who would like to apply.

What do you do on a missions trip?

Each trip is different so you will need to contact the trip leader to find out the specifics. Generally, we seek to serve church plants around the world. This could involve using your God-given skills (such as using your finance background to lead seminars for business men and women) or participating in a variety of other activities like teaching initiatives, serving at an orphanage, construction, VBS , and more.

What if I feel I have no relevant skills to serve on a Missions trip?

You do. God has blessed everyone with multiple skills and hobbies, and all can be used on a trip. What you can use on a mission trip might surprise you! Our staff is here to answer any questions.
